a complete guide to the gentle martial art of Judo.

Judo, the   ”gentle way”
Judo jigoro kana founder of modern judo

Judo itself is considered to have been originally created around 1882 in Japan by the father of the Judo movement Jigoro Kano.
The art of Judo is now a very modern fighting, combat martial art and also an Olympic sport that is  now practised by thousands of Judoka [Judo Players] around the world.
The very basis of all judo is using your opponents momentum and movements and their ‘off balance’ to gain the advantage and then use their following momentum to your advantage in order to throw them to the ground using the various judo techniques originally taught by Jigoro Kano.
The judo system has a very structured syllabus that allows the student to progress through the various Judo  ranks as they learn the many basic and advanced  hip, leg, arm and sweeping techniques.

There are many other elements involved in the syllabus included in the various throws and take-downs  namely, ground-working techniques and many various joint locks, strangulation and choke holds that require your opponent to submit.
Much emphasis is given to using the minimum force  with emphasis on body movement and techniques all designed to “win” with minimum effort.
